Toddler Rails
The days of strapping our child into her Snoo are over. We attempted (and failed) the crib transition, since our now toddler always wakes up when she feels our hands are putting her into the crib. She usually clutches at our shirts for hours just to avoid being put down into the crib.
Over time, we eventually gave up and began looking at other solutions. There were several that seem plausible (we eventually chose the toddler rails around our bed after our daughter was past the SIDS age) but each baby is different. I’ve listed out everything that we had attempted with our toddler and why we thought it might work. Toddler rails are simple yet effective barriers that provide a protective boundary along the edges of the bed. The rails we used offered us peace of mind, knowing that our toddler is less likely to take a nosedive to the floor. Other parents have chosen a montessori floor bed – which is also a safe and effective way for toddler sleep. I just can’t handle a low bed, so I wanted something that would work with our existing bed frame.
- MBQMBSS Bed Rails for Toddlers: We ended up using these bed rails for our toddler, and purchasing the rails for each side of our king bed. It provides some comfort since the guard rails are sturdy and high enough where our toddler can’t stand and topple over them. Our toddler sometimes crawls toward the edge and attempts to hit the rails, but they remain attached to the bed. It’s been very useful for us!
- Tatub Montessori Twin Floor Bed: While researching, we were considering this Montessori floor bed. Although it looks beautiful, we didn’t end up choosing this because it didn’t fit into our existing sleeping arrangement (king bed with a frame) and would need additional space.
- Hiccapop Toddler Bed Rail Bumpers: Once a child is past the age of concern for SIDS, a soft bed bumper could also be a good option for toddlers. These bumpers are a more gentle reminder that the toddler is close to the edge of the bed, instead of the higher mesh bumpers ( MBQMBSS Bed Rails for Toddlers). Rather, these bumpers are high quality raised and soft edges that fit under the bed sheet. They stay firm and do not shift.
